Hello and welcome to EEF's Problem-Solving Network.

If you are new to the Network please introduce yourself to others by replying to this thread.

As a starter let me tell you something about myself.

I joined EEF as a researcher in 2016 and in 2017 became one of two Network Community Managers. I studied history at university and have written two books including one on the world wars.

In 2014 I organised one of the largest war exhibitions in London to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the First World War and 70th anniversary of the DDay landings.

I am also a keen photographer and have photographed a number of the world's most famous photographers. My main job role is to help manufacturers connect with their peers in order to find solutions to their business challenges.

My key skills are in community management, photography, research and writing.

I look forward to finding out more about you and your experiences.

    Best regards,

    Daniel

  • Hi, I have been in industry for a long time starting out as an articled engineering apprentice destined for R&D at the heavy end and ending up as a Technical Specialist in mobile telecoms playing with very small devices. Along the way I was a champion for design for excellence (DFMA, DFE, DFT etc) reliability & business improvement specialist and still am in a small way. I also worked with ETSI developing technical specifications for Industry. Then by accident I found myself becoming a Quality/Compliance Manager in a similar vein to a poacher becoming a game keeper. It has to be said it’s not a patch on being an engineer at the sharp end but has its rewards.
Over the years I have tried to convince probably a couple of thousand engineers and similar there are better ways of doing things. Also over the same period I have learnt many new things that have helped improve what I do. A day without learning something is a day wasted and what you did 5 years ago that didn’t work may work now given a twist.
I am a member of other manufacturing related groups and mentor the odd individual still. I have worked for start-ups up to very large corporations in 20 different countries on and off.
Hope that gives you a picture of where I come from and I am always willing to act as a sounding board if anyone wants one.

  • Hi I am Len Taylor at Whessoe Engineering, a subsidiary of Samsung C&T.

As a company we have been in existence for 228 years this years. We are an engineering design company primarily focused on cryogenic hydrocarbon storage facilities globally, with over 95% of our business conducted outside of Europe.

Prior to joining Whessoe, I have worked in most industrial sectors, from Iron & Steel, Petrochemicals, Gas, Offshore Wind and at Whessoe in cryogenic hydrocarbons. I

In my working career I have worked as both the owner operator businesses and also as the Contracting company. All of which gives me a very broad experience base to call upon.

I look forward to being a RAB member as there is so much to be learned and gained from other businesses. I hope that my experiences may be of some use to the other members.

    Cheers,

    Len

  • Hi all

Thanks for taking the time to read my biog.

My history is in operational and supply chain process improvement.

I'm not a salesman. My heritage comes from introducing process anaylsis, solutions and modern workflow practices. I have worked with 2 global energy companies amongst others. This is now applied to my work @ Canon, where we simplify and transform back-office and supply chain processes. Expertise is in QMS, Document Digitisation, on demand and in-house CAD and manual printing, Purchase-to-Pay automation, and Managed Print Services.

My specific role is to market our applications and services to other manufacturers.
