Hi - we are trying to establish a fair shift premia rate for our permanent night shift. I can see the average/ mean amounts from industry reports. I wondered if any on here had implemented new shift rates recently, or in a previous life - and how they arrived at that rate. This is for a 40 or 42 hour week, either working 4 on 4 off or a 2 2 3, yet to be decided. many thanks Paul

Does anyone know off any independant companies who will analise our specific needs for cooling water rather than go directly to the process equipment companies. I am looking into removing cooling towers and replacing with a closed loop system, however I want to make sure the new system is fit for purpose/future expansion and energy efficient. Thanks

Hi, I am trying to contact companies specialising in handling systems for difficult products i.e. aluminium honeycomb both in block and expanded form from 200 x 80 x 1000 mm to 1200 x 300 x 2300 mm in various cell sizes. I have tried a couple of companies who in the end couldn't help so any suggestions would be gratefully received and followed up. The ultimate aim is to automate assembly processes and reduce risk of WRULD's for the operators. I would also like to attend exhibitions / seminars etc where I could learn more about materials handling so if anyone can suggest the best UK shows...

Hi Can anybody suggest a good visitor management system that produces badges and emails the person the visitor is seeing? It would need to be able to re register visitors and if possible allow us to log if managers are going off site so that we can create a 'movements' chart for all the staff to see?

Hi All I'm interested to hear from employers only at present, on the following: what systems do you use to clock/record working hours of employees and does that system download the data for purpose of payroll processing? Do many of you use clocking in systems or not? do those systems interface with your payroll system or is it a manual admin process i.e. download the report from the clocking in system? do you have a clocking in/payroll process system that pays from the point an employee clocks onto a job/task etc rather than the point at which they arrive on site? Additionally, does...

We currently operate 2 old single phase Electric arc furnaces which produce Boron alloys. As part of our 50001 energy objectives we are looking at validation of the process in terms of its efficiency e.g. electrode size, power input, furnace body size, etc The process has not changed for years (1970's) and we are seeking advice on calculations of the above parameters. All our potential contacts for this type of advice appear to have gone (Mainly British Steel research) any advice, suggestions, or potential contacts would be appreciated.

Hello My question is a very simple question based on these regulations. We use wooden euro pallets and collars to pack agricultural products into for despatch throughout the UK, Europe and other parts of the world. The regulations apply when you use over 50T of packaging materiel and have a turnover of more than £2M. Please see the highlighted section below. We have a statement from our pallet and collar supplier stating that all pallets and collars are grade 2 (B) which means that they are reused. Given the highlighted piece in Regulation 4., I am confident that means that we will...

Do your staff understand where you are going as a business and do they feel informed? How often to you communicate with all staff? If you operate across different plants and locations do staff ever get the chance to meet and understand what other business units do? Let us hear your thoughts on this - share best practice so other manufacturers can benefit from your insights. We look forward to hearing your replies.
